Applied are hiring on behalf of their client and looking to recruit an Assistant Poultry Farm Manager, the position will be based in Colston Bassett, Nottinghamshire.

You will be supporting the Farm Manager with the day-to-day management of the farm, ensuring that the farm is run to the highest standard and the birds experience the best welfare. Flexible approach will be necessary as this role is about looking after animals, to ensure their needs are met this will on occasion involve working some early mornings and late evenings also some weekends. However, the rewards gained from committing to the caring of animals in this way is huge and as well as there being some very busy and demanding periods there are some occasions when the demands are much less.

You will be supported in this role by way of an experienced farm manager, committed farm owner and the support of an excellent technical service available to you 24/7.

Primary Objective of the role of Assistant Poultry Farm Manager

Assist the Poultry Farm Manager and general farm work

Description of the role

  • Assisting the Farm Manager in the running of the farm
  • Along with the Farm Manager, you must ensure birds have feed and water and that the environment within which they are kept is suitable with regard to ventilation, lighting, etc.
  • Along with the Farm Manager, you are required to answer any alarm calls from the unit you are responsible for and respond in a timely manner. Where this is not possible you must notify your manager immediately
  • Along with the Farm Manager, you must remove dead, sick and lame birds from the growing space daily as a minimum
  • Along with the Farm Manager, you must conduct sufficient checks on the birds to meet the requirements of the Farm Manager and the relevant farm assurance schemes
  • Along with the Farm Manager, maintain sufficient daily records to meet the demands of the client and the relevant farm assurance schemes
  • Along with the Farm Manager, manage feed for the farms as per the Farm Managers plans, checking feed bins daily and ordering/ cancelling orders where necessary.
  • Report any breakdowns or incidences to the Farm Manager immediately.
  • Always oversee the running of the farms to the best of your ability.
  • Flexibility to cover last minute breakdowns or increases in workload
  • Other tasks commensurate with the role or any other relevant or delegated duties required by the Farm Manager and Management Team.
